Lance Languages ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. It applies to the Lance Languages mobile application ("App").

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. What Information We Collect

Information from Apple or Google Sign-In

When you sign in with your Apple ID or Google account, we receive the following information from those platforms:

  • Your name
  • Your email address (or a private relay address if you use Apple's Hide My Email feature)

We do not receive or store your Apple or Google password.

Usage Data and Analytics

We collect information about how you use the App, including:

  • Features accessed and actions taken within the App
  • Session frequency and duration
  • General device information (such as operating system and app version)

Language Learning Progress

We store data related to your activity within the App, including lessons completed, scores, streaks, and other progress metrics, in order to provide a personalised learning experience.

Subscription Information

If you purchase a subscription, payment is processed entirely by Apple or Google. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We receive confirmation of your subscription status from our subscription management provider (RevenueCat).

4. Marketing Communications

Opting out of marketing communications will not affect transactional messages related to your account or subscription.

Note: When you use AI-powered features in the App, the text you input may be sent to our AI provider for processing. We do not intentionally send personally identifiable information to our AI provider. Please avoid entering sensitive personal information into language learning prompts.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which provides encrypted database infrastructure. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App's services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable timeframe, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

8. Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or outdated information.
  • Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal obligations).
  • Opt out of direct marketing communications at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au if you believe we have mishandled your data.

The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Lance Languages Terms of Service

Welcome to Lance Languages. By downloading, accessing, or using the Lance Languages mobile application ("App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Use of the App

Lance Languages provides AI-powered language learning tools and educational content. You may use the App only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.

You agree not to:

  • Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
  • Attempt to interfere with or compromise the operation, security, or integrity of the App.
  • Copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer any part of the App, except where expressly permitted by law.
  • Use the App to transmit harmful, offensive, or unauthorised content.

2. Accounts

Paid subscribers must sign in using a valid Apple ID or Google account ("Account"). By signing in, you authorise Lance Languages to receive your name and email address from Apple or Google for account management purposes.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Apple ID or Google account. Lance Languages does not store your password.

Free users may use the App without an account.

You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the App.

If you wish to delete your account, you may do so from within the App's settings. Upon deletion, your account data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

3. Subscriptions and Billing

Free and Paid Tiers

Lance Languages offers both free and paid subscription plans. Certain features are only available to paid subscribers.

Billing

Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. Prices are displayed in the App prior to purchase and may vary by region.

Free Trials

If a free trial is offered, you will not be charged until the trial period ends. Cancelling before the trial period ends avoids any charge.

Automatic Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, as selected) unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

Cancellation

You may cancel at any time through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain full access until then.

Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Refund requests are subject to their respective policies. Lance Languages does not issue refunds directly.

Price Changes

We may change subscription pricing at any time. We will provide reasonable notice of any price increase before it takes effect. Continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new price.

4. Educational Purpose and Content Accuracy

Lance Languages is an educational tool designed to support language learning. While we strive to provide accurate and helpful content, we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any content generated within the App, including AI-generated responses.

Lance Languages should not be used as a sole or authoritative reference for professional, legal, or medical translation purposes.

5. Availability and Changes to the App

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature or part of the App at any time, with or without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. We will endeavour to provide notice of significant changes where reasonably practicable.

6. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, software, and materials within Lance Languages are owned by Lance Languages or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or branding without our prior written consent.

7. Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the App, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in the Privacy Policy.

When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive limited profile information (such as your name and email address) as permitted by those platforms. This information is used solely to manage your subscription and provide support. We do not sell or share this information with third parties except as required to operate the App.

Note: Some Apple users may sign in using a private relay email address. We will use whatever email Apple provides and will not reject relay addresses.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • Lance Languages shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the App.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer protection laws, including the Australian Consumer Law.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland, Australia.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
